COLLECTanDRAIN Model 5450 Self-Maintaining Auxiliary Drain

The COLLECTanDRAIN® Model 5450 Series of auxiliary drains feature a traditionally configured condensation collection assembly contained inside an insulated and heated cabinet. By incorporating a unique, self-maintaining design the Model 5450 offers more than just freeze protection. This feature prevents the auxiliary drain from filling beyond the safety level of the heated cabinet and automatically sheds condensation from the collection assembly when the level reaches approximately 80%. Any additional accumulation will flow into a drain trap that allows the excess to automatically drain from the system while maintaining the integrity of the dry valve. The easily mounted, lockable, steel cabinet is finished in a highly-visible, red, powder coat that includes appropriate identification signage and can be wired to the fire panel for remote notification. The Model 5450 is designed for installation in climates where freezing or below freezing temperatures are present and result in the failure of typical collectors. The Model 5450 maintains a comfortable temperature above freezing while minimizing power consumption. Available with galvanized or black steel and an optional Hot Operation Trouble (HOT) Monitor.

Model 5450A has galvanized piping and model 5450B includes black steel piping.

Model 5450H includes the hot operation trouble (HOT) monitor to send notifications if there is a heater issue. The Hot Operation Trouble (HOT) monitor tracks the heater's on/off cycles and compares that information against its own internal thermostat to make sure the heater is performing correctly. For example, if the cabinet door is accidentally left open causing the heater to run continuously, the HOT monitor will trip the local audible and visual alarms and alert the fire control panel. It will also trigger a notification if it detects that the heater is not operating enough to keep the interior temperature safely above freezing.

      2.1 DRY-PIPE SYSTEM AUXILIARY DRAIN

Auxiliary Drain and Condensation Collecting Assemblies for Dry Pipe and Preaction Sprinkler Systems shall be installed in order to provide for complete system drainage. Where the trapped capacity of an isolated section of system piping exceeds 5 gallons an auxiliary drain shall be provided. The auxiliary drain shall be installed in an accessible location and be capable of collecting and removing moisture from the system while minimizing the potential for excessive loss of air pressure and possible unplanned operation of the dry pipe valve. The Auxiliary Drains shall meet the following requirements:

      1. Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, available manufacturers offering products that may be incorporated into the work include, but are not limited to, the following:
        1. AGF Manufacturing Inc.; Model 5450 COLLECTANDRAIN™.
        2. <Insert manufacturer's name>.

        2. NFPA 25.
      3. Components:
        1. Cabinet: A secure locking, red powder-coated, insulated cabinet with required signage adhering to NFPA guidelines.
        2. Heating Element: Temperature-sensitive internal heating element to prevent excess condensation in the drum drip from freezing.
        3. Float Switch: Activates an audible alarm and visual signal to notify when the auxiliary drain requires maintenance.
        4. System Alarm Test Button: An integral TEST button allows for system testing.
        5. Thermometer: Externally mounted for easy monitoring of temperature conditions inside the cabinet.
        6. Drain Assembly:
          1. Two 1 inch by 2 inches (25 mm by 51 mm) Bell Reducers.
          2. 2 inch by 12 inches long (51 mm by 305 mm) Condensate Nipple.
          3. 1 inch (25 mm) Galvanized Square Head Plug.
          4. Two 1 inch (25 mm) MIPT x FIPT Brass quarter-turn ball valves with chrome-plated balls.
          5. Ancillary drain with Y strainer to shed accumulated water when the auxiliary drain reaches approximately 80% full.
          6. Mounting hardware.
